Sweet Indulgence

Good morning.  It's Friday.

In conjunction with Christmas Day, there is an awesome event, Beverage Launch Event, by Starbucks.
YES Starbucks!  Get yourself a drink and get one free.
I wish my stomach has enough room for both Madtongsan II dishes and Starbucks Cappuccino.

The day when I get onto the flight is just around the corner.  The most annoying thing is to buy souvenirs, but hey, I'm here to study, not on occasion.  So, I can choose NOT to buy, i guess.  Haha.  Anyway, I need to show my gratitude to some people who have been helping me a lot.  So, shopping.

Not eating okay?  Seriously need to lose weight, but, I love eating, I enjoy eating! Sigh.  Guess what?  I go jogging everyday, yes, everyday, for term two and term three, and now the BAD impact on me is the muscle on my leg.  Omg, it's so ugly. I wish it's all fat, at least I can try to losing fats, but muscle?  How?  :(

Once I set the goal I will work hard for it but now I haven't find myself my target. So, eat eat and eat!

It's a sweet indulgence.

An unknown.

So... How are you?

I got the Biology assignment done before the night I was supposed to be doing it.  Handed in this afternoon and felt a great sense of relief!  As I mentioned before it is my last piece of assignment.  Can you feel my excitement?

Year 11 is coming to an end.  It is so hard to believe that I have actually gone through this year.  2011, which I thought will be a hard year for me.  A whole new environment, you just need to adapt it.  Well, it is hard.  Anyway, the point is I've gone through all the obstacles because God is with me.  He gives me his love through my friends and family.

2012 is coming.  By the time I finish my foundation course, I NEED to make a decision on the courses that I gonna do in university.  Wait, I should decide now, unfortunately I just do not know what courses are suitable for me.  I wish I will not suffer headache before the moment comes.  I should really think about my future now.

Doctor?  Dentist?  Nurse?  Biochemist?  Or.... Physicist?

I'm so poor in art side subjects.  I have never done accounting or business in my previous life, except for the subtopics I learnt when I was Form Two.  So, the only thing that I can be sure about myself is, I will go for Science related courses.

My father wants his daughter to be a doctor instead of nurse, so, medicine?  My mother wants her daughter to be an engineer and also a business woman, so, a dual degree of engineering and business?  Both of them take at least 5 years, medicine courses take 6 years I guess.  Anyhow, time is not the problem.  My parents respect my decision.  Their advice is:  Choose wisely.  Choose what you want and choose what you think are suitable for you.

Yea, so true.  It is my future, my parents cannot guide me forever.  If I choose a career that doesn't suit my personality, I am sure that I will not work happily.

I did a quiz and this is the result.

This description is a generalisation. If it rings true, you've found your career type.
You would be very happy in a career that utilised your level-headedness, and allowed you to work mainly on your own. You want a career that allows you to stimulate your senses and your mind, without having to be involved with lots of people. Some careers that would be perfect for you are:
  • Novelist
  • Photographer
  • Vet
  • Medical Technician
  • Paralegal
  • Geologist
  • Marine Biologist
  • Graphic Designer
  • Online Content Developer
  • Webmaster
  • Computer Security
  • Producer
  • Computer Programmer
  • Technical Writer
  • Systems Analyst
  • Meteorologist
  • Artist

You like working and being alone. You like to avoid attention at all costs. You tend to keep to yourself, and not interact much with the people around you. You enjoy spending time with a few a close friends. You like to listen to others, but don't like sharing much about yourself. You are very quiet and private.
You are very practical, and only act after thinking things through. You don't like being forced to answer quickly. You have to evaluate the situation completely. You make decisions based on what you can verify with your senses.
You like to be involved deeply in one or two special projects. You like to be behind the scenes. You are very logical and fair. You feel you should be honest with others at all costs.
You trust what is certain. You only like new ideas if they can be practically applied to the situation. You value what is real. You use your common sense. You like to utilise the skills you have instead of learning new ones. You are very specific and detailed when writing or talking to others. You follow directions well. You like things to be laid out for you to do instead of working them out for yourself. You like decisions to be made. You don't like things to be left in limbo. You like to know what you are getting into before you commit to something.
You like to focus on the here and now. You enjoy completing projects. It is important for you to achieve and succeed. Therefore, you believe in working hard and playing later. You like to set goals and work towards them.
Finding a career that is right for you isn't always an easy thing. However, if you secure a job that is suited to your personality type you will enjoy going to work, feel great about yourself, feel appreciated and look forward to what's ahead.
This test was adapted from C. G. Jung's famous personality types.

Back to the topic, I am more interested in science related course.  However, based on the analysis shown above, hmmmm, I can only find four or five careers that are more related to science.  Vet?  If you know me well, I am scared of animals.  Yes I can deny that some of them are really cute, but I am scared of them.  I was chased by a little dog when I was 9.  It left a large impact on my life.  I like dogs, but I just cannot overcome my emotion and hug them like my brother does.  The another career is medical technician, which is also named as biomedical scientist.  The scientist that is trained in biology but in a particular context of medicine.  I have no comment on this career, but working in labs, sounds a bit boring.

I've been watching a Cantonese drama, named Forensic Scientist 3.  It is the third drama of this series.  The story line is good, to be honest, this drama triggers my interest on forensic science.  The first drama of this series was released in 2008 and I was addicted to it.  Followed by the second one, I was again inspired by the professionals in the drama.  Once again I said my ambition is to be a forensic scientist.

Maybe, it is a dream.  One of the questions in the quiz asked me "Are you a dreamer?"  My answer was an equivocal NO.  I believe in reality but I like day-dreaming.  In reality, there are so many aspects that need to be put into considerations. Think twice, think carefully and think wisely.  Think about the consequences.  Think too much, perhaps?

So, what is the conclusion?  My future is still an unknown.  Just like a mathematics question, solve it.  I will and I am, finding the solution every moment.  It just takes time. Take your time!  I don't suffer insanity after all.

Prezi can zoom!

My English Presentation on 'Get Poetic' went well this morning.  I was the last one to get onto the stage to deliver my pitch during the lesson.  Still, as usual, feeling a bit scared at the beginning but I started to get entertained by my friends when I was half way through the pitch and did not feel nervous at all.  It was so funny.  I eventually laughed, well, I think I was the only one who laughed when I said, "Can you hear that?  Poetry says, Blink if you want me."

The first zoom-in on my presentation, caption:  Hello guys.  I was laughing when I started my presentation.  Kept on laughing.

Doesn't it sound funny?  Anyhow, I did my presentation with the aid of prezi, instead of powerpoint.  Somehow I do not like powerpoint slideshow.  I blogged about prezi in August but that's just a brief introduction.  Prezi.com has launched the new program:  You can design your own theme!  Cool.  Prezi just makes your presentation fun and not-boring-at-all when the slides zoom-in and out.

My 'Get Poetic' pitch is all about an English song.  Count On Me, by Bruno Mars.  The task is to persuade the panel of the TV Show to accept the song to be presented on the show.  Meaning that I was on the fake TV show this morning!  Aha.

I used prezi during my presentation.  I did my prezi last night, spending only an hour.  If I use powerpoint I might need three hours to figure out how does it function.  Perhaps I should really learn how to use powerpoint during this holidays!  I only know how to insert a few transition, which I think was cool when I was young, not now.

Back to prezi.com,  it is a highly recommended presentation software.  What you need is just a laptop that can goes onto the network, access to its website and get started.  Firstly, you need to sign up, it's FREE.

Log in and you will get this page.
Click on"New Prezi".

Give your prezi a name and a short description if you want.

Choose a theme!  Normally I use the blank theme, you can add the [   ]  brackets, circles, arrows and other shapes while you're editing.  I prefer the blank theme mainly because of the simplicity.  It has white background!  You can also change the background colour if you want.

How about the newest feature?

And this is the newest feature!  You can choose the language and spot 中文!  Not the colours and fonts that you prefer?  Do not worry.  Go to 'Theme Wizard'.

I really like the design of the website, the control panel of the designing page is so cool, as shown as below. It rotates, rotates and rotates. :p

Cool right?  Your audience/listeners will never get boring with your zoom-in and out presentation.  In fact, I will get dizzy if I am the listener.
Anyway, try new stuff.  Give it a go!

Fortitude Valley @30102011

OH YES!  I just sat for my last biology exams in high school.  Yes, LAST!  It was about the stimulus response towards a case, pretending I'm a IVF specialist and I felt so good while I was writing, like I'm the doctor who gives blablabla professional advice.  Anyway, I gonna hand in my last piece of Biology Assignment on Thursday.  English Presentation on 'Get Poetic' tomorrow!  I gonna dress up.  Hmmm, should I?

That's a short diary for today.

I have been here for almost a year, to be specific, ten months.  Ten months, approximately 310 days and finally I can say that I have been walking around places other than Sunnybank, Brisbane CBD and Garden City.  What a shame.  I went to Fortitude Valley, which is located at the northeast of Brisbane CBD.  After the trip then I realise Fortitude Valley station is one of the route of 174, 175 buses that I always take.

And there is it!  Brisbane Chinatown.  Hmmm.  It actually staggered me, not going to mention the reason.  I think the best Chinatown in aussie will be the one in Melbourne.  I must visit it one day!

Or, perhaps the Chinatown in USA, the largest and the oldest chinatown in the world.

Random shot,  I really like to take portraits using my lumix camera.  Still learning how to drive my lumix.  It takes time it takes time. heheh.

My final block exams start next Wednesday but I will stay at home because I do not do Business Management.  But... There is always a BUT.  I do Chemistry.  T_T
Wish me good luck and of course for everyone who's going to sit for their exams! :D

TV Game?

TV Game?  I used to play it when I was nine.  I can vividly remember that was after my Primary Three final exams and the first game I played was Sonic.  My childhood friends even visited my house for the TV game.  We played all day and night, always got scolded by parents because we just could not leave the TV Game and had our dinner.  Funny.  Childhood memories.

Back to childhood last month during my school holidays.  Little bro was too bored and my two sisters did not want to play with him.  So I was the victim.  We played Spongebob SquarePants.  Unfortunately I was the loser.  -.-  I never win in games:  TV Games, Car Race games.  They just make me feel dizzy.

This is a funny picture with the distinct difference on height.  But then my brother is ten years younger than me, his height almost reaches my shoulder!  For sure after two or three years he will be taller than me.  Chill.

Getting all "nutty"? Apam Balik!

Getting all nutty because of exams?  Why not making some nutty food?!  Apam balik!  (Malaysian Traditional Peanut Pancake)

It was my second attempt to make apam balik.  I searched for the recipe few months ago and made some for my parents because apam balik is one of their favourite Malaysian food.  My brother loves it as well, because it is nutty.

 Ingredients:
330g Flour
3 eggs
3 tsp cornflour
50g sugar
1/2 tsp salt
Vanilla essence
1 tsp baking soda
420ml water
50ml full cream milk

The original recipe contains baking powder.  I can't find any in the kitchen so I used self-rising flour instead of plain flour.  Please do not use icing sugar, well, I used it yesterday because I can't find sugar in the kitchen too!  -.-  I thought it will make no difference because both icing sugar and white sugar taste sweet, obviously.  But then, after I had the first bite on my apam balik I found that I was wrong.  It tastes really different!  Failure.

Sieve it first.  Me seriously hate to sieve powder-like substances.  My brother loves doing it.  I hope my brother was there yesterday helping me.  But then he always get scolded by me because he makes a mess.

Beat the eggs with  420ml water.  I added 50 ml full cream milk.  Beat them until bubbles appear.  Then mix the powder-like substances which you should have sieved before.  Mix well and strain it if you want.  I was too lazy to strain the mixture.  After that, cover it with cling wrap and put it into the fridge.  Leave it for at least 30 minutes.  (by the way, the batter did not expand like what I've expected.  Maybe I should really add in some baking powder, or leave it for 2 hours.  That's what the original recipe tells.)

In fact, I do not really follow any recipes I got.  Mom was like... "always agak-agak, wasting food if it's a failure" Well, I never failed, except for this time using icing sugar instead of white sugar.

AND I COULDN'T FIND A BLENDER TO GRIND THE PEANUTS.  I spent 30 minutes smacking on them by using a roller.  Pheww, so much effort.  Use a blender if you have one.  If you want to burn your calories/you are too free and feel bored, go ahead, use a roller like what I did.

See, they were not the size I want. D:

Whatever... Continue.  Do not add butter or oil, just pour all the peanuts into a pan and fry them until you smell it.  Peanuts taste good and smell good!

Besides peanuts, I used almond nuts(I smacked on them as well and they are extremely hard like what their Chinese name means. 坚果.)  Another option is coconut filling.

Sorry guys this was another failure.  Too much butter!

When the bubbles appear like this, sprinkle sugar and peanuts on it.  Before you fold it into half, add butter.

Tadaaaaaaa.  Doesn't look like Traditional Malaysian apam balik.

This is it!  It looks really crispy.  Photo taken when i was back in Miri.  Regret that I didn't have more that time considering the body weight that I had put on.

I left some at home for my homestay parents and they love it!  Malaysian Traditional Peanut Pancake.  This is the name I told them..  Sounds a bit weird but apam balik will be even more weird for them  Lol  I brought some for youth fellowship.  Hope you guys love it!  Aha and thanks to Wei Yew for home-delivery for Angie.

-Exams coming in less than two weeks time and I'm still boh-lang-boh-zuak.-
Should really start working hard!  Chiong ah, for the last two weeks of my high school life.  No graduation day.  T.T

Ciao.

Facial Cleanser: Eskinol

I rarely use cosmetic products like eye-liner, eye-lashes, eye-shadow, facial make-up or even nail polish.  I remember that my first make-up was on last year, sacrificing my own face for concert show.  Friends and seniors advice us to at least do some make-up and it needs to be quite obvious so that teachers will be satisfied and not going to do the make-up for us.  Teachers' make-up on students' was like....
HAHAHA really beh tahan.

No offence.  Just that I don't like facial make-up.  I do agree that make-up makes girls look gorgeous.

After the first make-up in my life, I told my mom that I will never do make-up again, unless there are some important occasions.  Apparently I inherit my mom's genes because my mom seldom do facial make-up.

Not doing make-up doesn't mean that you don't need to take care of your face.  Hey it's your face!  It needs love and caring.  I have been using this facial cleanser since I was 13 and I can proudly say that normally I have no pimples on my face, except during those day... you know, when the progesterone hormone reaches its peak and stimulates the tissue swelling.  I had my biggest pimple before PMR exams.  Guess that it's because of stress.

To get rid of pimples, this cleanser product is highly recommended.  I like the cucumber, lemon and avocado flavour.  They smells nice.  Apply it after shower, or if you do facial make-up, apply some after make-up removal.  It is cooling and refreshing.  The only cons is it has strong alcohol smell till sometime me oso beh tahan.

It is available at pharmacy or even supermarket (Wollies and Coles) I guess.  My mother bought some antibiotic pills and let them dissolve in the solution.  She said that it can clean my face more thoroughly.  Anyway, thanks to Mom for introducing me this product in my teens.

Love ya.

Turning 20, Happy Birthday Daniel!

Seriously-Why birthday celebration?  We always celebrate our birthday and never think of this question.  It's a thought-provoking question.  We just celebrate it, just like... what we supposed to do.

For me, the purpose of birthday celebration is to officially announce that you have grown one year older.  Yes, OLDER.  I am always one year older during my birthday celebration, but, paradoxically, I love celebrating my birthday.  Anyway, it's not about my birthday celebration, it's Daniel's!

Congratulations to Daniel who has just turned 20!  I know I sound like a bit sarcastic, well, just joking.  Fyi, I'm turning eighteen next year.  T.T

On 30 Oct 2011, the second last day of October, after Sunday service, we went to Old Town Kitchen to celebrate Daniel's birthday.  We went there by train.  I forgot to bring my GO Card.  Lucky that I got two GO Cards from Myra and Elaine.  Thanks a lot!  Elaine's GO Card is for adult, so I used Myra's.  TQTQ.
221 Mcwhirters Mall, Brunswick St
Fortitude Valley, QLD 4006

Please touch when you go!  Be a friendly Go-Card User.  Don't ever try 'not touching-off' Translink public transport.  Not to mention the penalty, but your personality.

After 30 minutes I reckoned, we arrived safely at Fortitude Valley and finally found Old Town Kitchen at the corner.  I like the interior design; Sadly I did not take a photo of the outside view of the cafe.  Should visit it again next time because it serves Malaysian's cuisine!

My grandparents have one set of this kitchenware.
A sense of nostalgia.

Chit-chatting, gossiping, joking...
And it's time for food!

Part of the menu.

Braised Duck served with rice and Bak-Choy.

 Asam Curry Fish.
It tastes good, but not spicy enough for me. Hehe.
Shirley said she's been craving for it for a long time and finally she had the chance to eat.
But, after the meal, she said:  "I am wrong.  I want tom yam, not asam. No wonder la, the taste is different"

 Ba-Kut-teh肉骨茶
I must have this when I get back to Miri, forgot to eat this when I was in Miri few months ago.

 Nasi Lemak
Reminds me of the Nasi Lemak 2.0 movie which I've just watched two weeks ago.  Vincent actually entertained us by singing the song.  Lol.  Haven't watch Nasi Lemak 2.0?  Quickly find the link and watch it!  I don't think it is still available on youtube, but try~ :D  Highly recommended movie, especially for Malaysian.

Last but not least.
My Tofu Claypot with Mixed Vegetables.
Yes, served with no rice.  If you know me well, I don't eat rice.  I don't think it's bad for health, 'coz i actually have cereals everyday.  Both of them contain the same nutrients.  *Oh really?*  Well I'm not sure. LOL

Some random shots:

Tadaaaa. Finally it's the show time for the birthday cake!

The Chocolate Mud Cake from French Twist.  Vivian bought this.

Happy Birthday!

It is nice.  I only had half under torture.
N'ah just joking. :D

Once again, Happy Birthday sistah!

 Group photo. :D

And this post ends with the panaroma photo taken by Vincent.

**Photos credited to my Lumix FZ150, Daniel's as well, Werner's Nikon and Vincent's phone.

Today is the fifth day of your life for being 20!  Wish you all the best and God Bless! :D

p/s Such a long post.  I gonna start working on my last piece of assignment in high school!
Ciao~
